Governor Chris Christie "Domestic Terrorist"?

GWB Lane Closure Scandal May Implicate Christie as a "Dometic Terrorist"

Governor Chris Christie, a proponent of the Patriot Act, and a man who has been called a "terror fighter”, may in fact be guilty of domestic terrorism himself. If it is found that he was involved in the George Washington Bridge lane closures, he would be guilty of Domestic Terrorism under the USA PATRIOT ACT. According to Section 802 "Definition of Domestic Terrorism", domestic terrorism is spelled out below.

(A) involve acts dangerous to human life that are
       a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or
       of any State;
‘‘(B) appear to be intended—
         ‘‘(i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population;
         ‘‘(ii) to influence the policy of a government by
                 intimidation or coercion

Currently there is controversy over whether the lane closings, ordered by members of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's staff and friends, caused the death of a 91 year old Fort Lee New Jersey woman due to delayed EMS response. What is certain is that the traffic caused by the lane closures doubled the average response time of emergency personal. These type of traffic delays undoubtedly cause deaths that may have otherwise been prevented. According to a Harvard University study, “traffic congestion” lead to 2,200 premature deaths in 2010.

The email exchanges between Bridget Anne Kelly (Christie's deputy chief of staff), and David Wildstein (a friend and Christie appointee to the Port Authority), show the two gleeful that they ruined, the “children of Buono votes” first day of school. Presumably they also took joy in the stress caused to those who lost productivity at work, and time with their family; “I cant wait for tomorrow” Wildstein said to Kelly the day before the lane closures. As spelled out in the email exchanges this was clearly an attempt by the Christie administration to: punish, coerce and intimidate, the people of Fort Lee NJ, Mayor Mark Sokolich, and any other political enemies of Chris Christie.

The actions taken by the individuals implicated in the GWB lane closure emails, clearly constitute Domestic Terrorism under the USA PATRIOT. Will Christie go after these individuals with as much zeal as he did with gun owners, who were on “terror watch lists” extra-judicially? Or will Chris Christie become the first Governor tried for Domestic Terrorism under the Patriot Act?
